Jean Baptiste Huet [1745-1811] after Nicolas Huet the Younger

Coloured stipple engravings (crayon manner)

Jean-Baptiste Huet (Paris 1745-1811) was a French painter, engraver and designer associated with pastoral and genre scenes of animals.

Etched in the stipple technique known as the crayon manner, suitable for producing imitations of chalk drawings, was pioneered in France. Colouring was undertaken by applying inks directly by hand to the plate which was cleaned off and re-inked after each impression. As such fine examples are rare and highly sought after.
